Warning: this method is not recommended, as using default keys will jeopardise the security of your installation.

1. Management of security keys in SECard and STid readers:

When a reader is configured for the first time, it must be programmed with a personalised security key that replaces the default factory key (FF..FF..FF). Once this key has been changed, the default key is no longer valid for accessing or reconfiguring the reader. The current security key must be known and used to generate new configuration badges.

2. Can a configuration badge be reissued with the default key?

  • Yes, if the personalised key is known from the user, simply enter it in the ‘Current’ box in the SCB wizard and enter the default key in the ‘New’ section.
  • Yes, if the reader is still using the default key, it is possible to create a configuration badge with this key and use it.

3. How can I reconfigure a reader with a default key if the personalised key is known?

Once the keys have been modified in SECARD :

  • Generate a new configuration badge using this key.
  • Present the badge to the reader to update its configuration.
  • Restore the default key (factory reset required)

Warning: this method is not recommended, as using default keys will jeopardise the security of your installation.

4. What happens if the security key is lost?
If the security key is lost or forgotten, it is not possible to reconfigure the reader with SECard. You will need to send in your security key to be reset.
